Spain

Team Leader| 2017

In January 2017 a group of 9 MIIS students and I had the opportunity to travel to Madrid, Spain to study various education abroad models at universities and program providers.  We worked closely with the Middledbury school in Spain and learned a lot about how their office and programs work.  We were put into pairs and my partner and I were responsible for designing three co-curricular activities for Middlebury- one social, one cultural and a trip to Segovia.
Since I have experience living in Spain, I was designated as the Team Spain leader. As a leader, I assisted the professor with various program elements pre, during and post departure. I also served as a mentor for for the other program participants.

Volunteer| 2015

During my time in Spain, I also volunteered with the   U.S. Department of State network Education U.S.A.,  which has over 400 international student advising centers in over 70 countries. As a EducationUSA volunteer, I informed my students about the steps they need to take to study at a four year university in the United States. I also marketed and volunteered at EducationUSA's University Fairs in Madrid. At these fairs, U.S. university representatives came to Spain to provide students information about study opportunities at their institution.

BEDA

Spain will always have a place in my heart! I studied abroad in Madrid in 2012 and moved back in 2013 to teach English to students of all ages.

English Teacher| 2013-2016

I taught English in Madrid, Spain for three years through a program called BEDA. I was placed in a Catholic school in the center of Madrid where I predominantly worked with high school students. I especially enjoyed working with these students because their high level of English allowed me lead in-depth discussions on a variety of topics. My main focus however was to encourage my students to study abroad and provide them with resources and advice on how to do so (See EducationUSA)

Chaperone| 2015

I accompanied eight female high school students from my school in Madrid on a two week exchange to to private school in Virginia. As a chaperone, I encouraged my Spanish students to integrate into the community, interact with Americans and understand how others live. I believe immersing into a culture is the most essential part of going abroad.
